Mette O’Connor, the founder of AMOC, has always been creative. As a child she was often seen with a pencil in hand and after travelling the world she spend 4 years at Art College.
As much as she loved the arts it was the need for something more practical and intricate that made her search begin. A chance meeting with an Australian jeweller and gemmologist opened the doors to a new world- a wonderful world full of glistening stones, precious metals and rough tools.
Since then, Mette has worked with several different craftmen in Australia, Denmark and Ireland, all using traditional jewellery making tecniques and she has trained within gemmology and diamond grading.
Apart from making jewellery for every day use, Mette also creates wearable art- Pieces for fashion shows and exhibitions internationally.
Her inspiration comes from life; a shadow on a leaf, an arch in an ancient cathedral, the rain drops in her daughter’s hair. The ideas are limitless…
“I love my job! How many people are lucky enough to be able to say that? I love the whole process- meeting the customer, drawing out the design, finding the right stone to suit the piece, shaping the metal and finally seeing the customers reaction to their new piece of jewellery.”
